The Short Version
Hal Wilson is a clean comedian whose smart, relatable style connects with audiences of all ages. Based in Statesboro, GA, he is an award-winning professor, veteran coach, and father of three who draws comedy from parenting, sports culture, academia, growing older, and everyday chaos.
A North Carolina native and former walk-on basketball player at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Hal knows a thing or two about long odds and stubborn optimism. Warm, professional, and genuinely funny, he performs “no cringe” material for comedy clubs, corporate events, churches, fundraisers, and private events throughout the Southeast and beyond.
What People Are Saying
“Hal’s engaging presence immediately put everyone at ease, and his humor was spot-on from start to finish. He had the entire room laughing along and left us all wanting more by the end of the show.”Hayley Wingard · Event Planner
“Hal had it from the start. A clear sense of performance and a nose for joke telling. Like a basset hound that was raised next to a comedy club. Our audience ate him up and he’s been on my short list of comedians to work with here in Savannah. Book this man you won’t regret it.”Jon Antoine · Comedian / Performer
“Good, clean comedy! Thank goodness that type of comedy is making a return in a big way and Hal Wilson is a perfect example of a comedian who shares life experiences, of which we can all relate, in a clean, family-style way. He’s quick-witted, intellectually funny and self-deprecating in a very funny way. If you haven’t heard him yet, make a point to take the time to listen…you’ll be glad that you did!”Norman · Audience Member

The Full Story
Hal Wilson is a clean stand-up comedian who turns real life into sharp, relatable comedy audiences recognize immediately. Based in Statesboro, Georgia, he brings the perspective of a longtime coach, educator, father of three, and man discovering that aging comes with far too many opinions from doctors, children, and complete strangers. He also lives with a dog named Smoochie — though Hal prefers the more dignified title, “The Smoochinator.”
Before comedy, Hal built a successful career in sports and higher education. He earned multiple Coach of the Year honors, later completed his Ph.D., and became an award-winning professor known for engaging audiences and connecting with people from all walks of life. Those years in locker rooms, classrooms, and family life now provide endless material, and a deep understanding of how to read a room.
Hal first grabbed a microphone at a high school pep rally in 1998, then took the scenic route back to stand-up nearly three decades later. Returning with more experience and better stories, he developed a style that is polished, audience-friendly, and genuinely funny without relying on shock value or cheap shots.
His material covers parenting, youth sports parents, relationships, technology frustrations, college culture, aging with dignity (or trying to), and the strange social rules people accept after 50. Audiences often say they see themselves, their families, or someone they know in the jokes.
Hal performs for comedy clubs, corporate events, churches, fundraisers, senior communities, and private events throughout the Southeast and beyond. Event organizers appreciate that he is easy to work with, professional from first contact to final applause, and able to tailor the show to the room. Whether the setting is a packed comedy club or a banquet crowd that “wasn’t sure about a comedian,” Hal delivers laughs while making the host look smart for booking him.

“Our next guest spent nearly three decades coaching athletes and teaching college students how to communicate, so when he finally stepped behind a comedy microphone, he already knew how to work a room. He’s a clean comedian, a Ph.D., and the father of three kids and a dog he refuses to call by his actual name. Please welcome Hal Wilson.”Feel free to use this verbatim — it’s written to be read aloud.
